We will not play our remaining Premier League games

Al Masry Vice President, Mohamed El-Khouly, has revealed their decision to not play any of their remaining games this season if Egyptian football returns.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) had suspended the league since 14 March due to the outbreak.

With football being put on hold for almost two months, many clubs have been facing financial repercussions due to the pandemic.

“Resuming the league is very difficult and unlikely to happen. Most clubs don’t have enough resources to pay the salaries of both players and staff.

“Everyone is suffering financially, we pay salaries from our own pockets and it’s getting difficult. We also haven’t received our revenue from sponsoring companies.

“Our decision has nothing to do with our position in the league, in fact, Ittihad of Alexandria, who are in a more advanced position in the league table, are the ones leading the demand to cancel the league,” he added.

Al Masry are tenth in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 20 points after 16 games played.
