The least our health-care professionals deserve

Yes, in theory, health-care workers have hospital-grade personal protective equipment, but my sister and colleagues of my mother, a surgical nurse, say it’s too scarce. Nurses are trained to remove their masks in a way that minimizes contamination so they can be salvaged for repeated future use — even around COVID-19 patients. In these dangerous conditions, hazard pay would compensate healthy workers, while paid leave of absence would protect the more vulnerable.
