Oakland A’s win in dramatic fashion for second day straight

For the second day in a row, the Oakland A’s beat the divisional rival Seattle Mariners in dramatic fashion, all while being backed by the long ball yet again.

In a season filled with drama off the field, the Oakland A’s provided a second straight 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners. Chris Bassitt was able to claim his first career victory over the Mariners in his seventh attempt.

Bassitt allowed one run in 5.2 innings of work, struck out seven and raised his pitch count to 83 while lowering his season ERA to 0.93.

The Mariners again received a superb performance from their starting pitching. Kendall Graveman, the former Oakland Athletic, went 4.2 innings without directly allowing a run.

It was only when Graveman exited and Anthony Misiewicz allowed a three run home run from Laureano in the fifth inning that Graveman had Tony Kemp and Marcus Semien count against him.

Laureano, who is hitting .290 on the season, continues to be one of the most consistent producers on the offense side for an Oakland team who has struggled with a sub .200 team batting average to begin the 2020 campaign.

Khris Davis‘ struggles continued on Sunday. Davis pinch hit for starting DH Seth Brown and went hitless in his two at-bats.

Although the Oakland offense continues to struggle and continues to rely on the homerun, their pitching has kept their season afloat early. The A’s have had strong outings by their starting pitchers who have been supported by an outstanding cast in the bullpen.

Oakland will wrap up the four game series on Monday with Frankie Montas taking the mound for the third start of the season. Montas, who received the title of the Oakland A’s ace to begin the season, has struggled so far to make it deep into games.
