MSSN, Ahmadiyya to Nigerians: don’t give up

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has urged Muslims and Nigerians to remain steadfast and never give up despite the challenges faced in the country.

MSSN Amir (President) Dr Saheed Ashafa in an Eid message urged religious leaders and Muslims to comply with COVID-19 directives.

While noting that the celebration came at a time when the whole world is troubled, Ashafa said: “Regardless of the challenges, we must not give up. We should remain steadfast in God and continue to pray for His intervention.

“Eid il-Adha is a time to celebrate the gift of life and also a period to reflect on the great benefit of sacrifice. It, therefore, behoves everyone of us to maintain the spirit of celebration and gratitude despite all odds.

“We should celebrate the festival with a renew sense commitment and sacrifice, not forgetting that observing the laid down preventive measures is in itself a required form of sacrifice.”

Amir of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria Alhaj Alatoye Folorunso Azeez said the effect of COVID-19 has had its tolls of Muslims purchasing power to fulfil the obligations of slaughtering rams as they would have love to.

“Be that as it may,” Alhaj Azeez said “as we celebrate the Eid, we should remember the obedience of prophet Ibrahim and his faithfulness which originated the institution of this Eid. Our obedience should, however, not be limited to Allah but also to lawfully constituted authorities as demanded of us by the Holy Qur’an.’

“Sadly too, it is not a secret that things are not what they should be in our country. But we cannot hold the government as solely responsible. We are all involved. And except we change our ways, and focus on value change, no miracle can happen.

“Our respect for modesty is in a free fall. Shameful acts are becoming common place. Atrocities that were never heard of are making headlines in the news media. These lead to destruction. We urge every well-meaning Nigerian, especially religious leaders, to be in the frontline to fight the shamelessness. Let us remember that when the wrath of Allah descends, it would not affect only those who have sinned.”
