Is charging your cell phone with power bank bad?

Owing to the wide usage of cell phones these days, it is very important to keep their batteries charged most of the time. Most mobile users charge their phones at least once a day so that they don’t have to face interruptions due to battery discharge while calling, watching a movie, playing a game, or various other things. However it’s not always possible to carry a charger, and here’s where a power bank helps. You can keep your
phones,
tablets and various other devices charged with
power banks while you are on the go.

These portable chargers simply work by storing electrical energy that can be used to charge your mobile or other devices later. Power banks have become popular and today many mobile users carry this portable charging device with them. But the question arises is that is it safe to use a power bank for mobile charging?

Using the wrong voltage to charge your mobile phone can cause serious damage to the battery life of your smartphone. Therefore, it is suggested to use a high-quality and branded power bank.

  1. Can power banks be recharged?
Power banks are the devices that make sure that your phones and other devices like smartwatches, cameras, tablets, laptops, etc. don’t run out of charge. And, to charge various devices on the go, your power bank itself needs to be charged. You can easily charge these portable chargers through a laptop or a wall socket. Once it gets fully charged, you can again use it for charging different gadgets that are compatible.
  2. What happens if a power bank overcharges?
If designed properly, a power bank cannot be overcharged. At the time of charging, as the battery approaches its fully charged state the current from the charging circuit will automatically drop down to a point where it is not possible to overcharge the cells of your power bank.
  3. How often should I charge my power bank?
To keep your power bank in good working condition, it is suggested to charge it at least every three months. Though there’s no concrete evidence, for superior performance and longer lifetime it is generally suggested that to charge power banks only up to 80% and discharge up to 20%. Most power banks also come with a charging status indicator.
  4. Can I use my mobile at the time of charging on the power bank?
It is a good practice not to use your cell phone while it is getting charged via power bank. As using the phone in a charging state may raise internal temperature and harm battery life.
