Everton are willing to sell Muhamed Besic for around £4 million with Sheffield United and Bournemouth interested in signing the Goodison Park misfit, according to SportSport.

When you consider that a recently-relegated Bournemouth side conceded over 60 goals in each of their five Premier League seasons, including 65 in 2019/20 alone, the phrase ‘asking for it’ comes to mind.

An error-prone side were dumped from the top flight on Sunday, despite winning 3-1 at Everton on the final day.

And if Eddie Howe wants to lead the Cherries back to the top-flight at the first attempt, strengthening a back line with as much strength as limp spaghetti is an absolute must.

Besic is not a commanding centre-half capable of stepping into a Nathan Ake-shaped void at the Vitality Stadium.

But the Bosnian international is a real ankle-biting terrier of a midfielder who does not give opposition attackers an inch.

SportSport claim that Bournemouth are one of the most interested suitors in Besic this summer, with Everton set to sell a man they bought from Ferencvaros after he brilliantly man-marked Lionel Messi at the 2014 World Cup.

Besic has an excellent track record in the Championship, enjoying a fine loan spell at Middlesbrough in 2019, and averaged 4.3 successful tackles per game in Bosnia’s recent Nations League campaign.

This certainly bodes well for Bournemouth.

The report adds that the 27-year-old could also return to Sheffield United – on a permanent basis this time.

Besic was hardly a regular starter during a temporary spell at Bramall Lane this season but Blades boss Chris Wilder remains a big fan.
